Red-capped Mangabeys are endangered on some lists and vulnerable on others. The existing population is unknown, but the numbers are estimated not to be large. They are hunted intensively in Cameroon and Nigeria as a desirable food source, and their loud alarm call makes them easy to locate. They are very social animals and live in groups of 7-10 members. Also, their habitat is being destroyed due to human logging and farming activity. They live where there is lots of swampland, mangroves, or valley forest.
